"Special" Birthday

For all of our kids we have specific birthdays that we designate "special birthdays" in the Dallas family.  No magic formula for what those birthdays are, but the one's we chose back when our first boys were little are 5, 10, 13, 16, and 18 years old, and it's worked out really nicely so far. I really should do a blog post sometime specifically about each birthday and what we do with each one, but for now...This was Elly's first "special" birthday!  For this birthday, we take them out to eat wherever they want, hang out a little while, and give them their first full "big kid" Bible to use as they are really beginning to learn to read.  We talk with them about the significance of God's Word in their lives, how precious it is, and what that really means.  Keep in mind, we've had 4 boys before Elly, so Daddy has done several of these special birthdays already, but for me...it was my first.  My girl chose Chili's (she's our girl, for sure!) and we had a really special time of talking for a while at a spot we found outside not far from there where I gave her her Bible.  Then we did one of Elly's favorite things just for fun...trying on dress up stuff at Target! So thankful for our sweet little "light" and the precious young lady she is becoming.

If you want to check it out, I wrote a little bit more about Elly in a post for her birthday last year that tells some about all of us finding out she was a girl when I was pregnant (after 4 boys in a row), how she got her name, and some of the things that we love about our sweet girl: http://lifetrulylife.blogspot.com/2011/09/our-little-light-elly-is-four.html

Always fun times together!

This was the next morning after getting her Bible...she wanted to go out on the deck and "read" it for some quiet time, she said.  Sweetness!
